I’ve been told that I am my mother’s daughter more than a couple of times. I look like her, I talk like her, and am, essentially a blonde version a few years younger. That being said though, my Mom majored in Fashion Merchandise so we were brought up to love clothes. Because of that small fact, I have myself, become a collector of fashion…at least when I say it like that I feel a little better about myself. My friends call it too many clothes. My worst fear is that something might happen to those clothes; how would I survive work? How would I show everyone how much I love OSU? In the case of disaster, I know that I am absolutely covered by my insurance, but what about everyone else?

I was talking to a friend the other day about renters insurance. As we were working through how much it might be to replace her couch or TV at replacement cost, she came to a figure in her head that she thought would be adequate. I was in absolutely agreement, we could replace all the big stuff, but what about one of the biggest gold mine’s that is each and every one of our homes. Our closet. Many people forget to take into account exactly how much they have in monetary value piled and folded neatly away. When I am looking at someone’s closet, I am not seeing the shirt that has a small stain from when your toddler flung spaghetti at you or the jeans that are fraying at the ends. I am seeing it as if it was brand new in 2014 and about how much I’d spend today, not used and bought in 2010. After all, if a fire were to come and burn everything, you would probably not go to the thrift store, you’d buy brand new clothes. When I look in my closet, it is well over a few thousand dollars easily, especially when I’m looking at shoes, accessories, and clothes. This is not just exclusive to women…I know how much all those golf polo’s are and it is anything but cheap!

Sometimes it’s easy to just consider the big things when it comes to insurance, but it is amazing how much the little things all piled together could be an enormous loss too. If you have any questions about what your personal insurance covers you can always ask ECI, we're always here.
